Grace Stinson- First Reflection

During the first week of the trip, I was most impressed by the archaeological site/city of Olympia. Since my presentation was there, I had researched a lot of the history and it was definitely the place which historical background intrigued me the most. Seeing the Temples of Zeus and Hera were also super impressive because Hera's is one of the oldest temples and obviously Zeus is king of the gods so his has a lot of significance as well. When we were on the original Olympic field and I was trying to picture 50,000 spectators and competitors in that area, I was mesmerized. The stories about the Olympics and so many Olympic champions were so intriguing and honestly so impressive. I know we think the Olympics is a big deal today (and it is), but wow did those champions get treated well back then. In every site we went to I would think about how crazy it is that we were standing on the same ground that all of these ancient people did thousands of years ago and I think it must’ve just especially struck me in Olympia. Like I said, the Olympics is a big deal today, but it’s just so insane to think about how much pleasure and competitiveness it brought to the Ancient Greek people. Overall, I was really interested in the history of each city throughout the whole trip and I think Olympia had some of the richest background and stories to offer which is probably why it really stuck out to me.
