The second
half of my Greece trip was even better than the first. Although I enjoyed the
historical sites more while on land I thought it was really cool to see the
modern day famous tourist sites at Santorini and Mykonos while touring the Aegean
Sea, and I had an insane amount of fun on the ship. Although not much is known
for sure I find the history of Santorini fascinating, and I really want to know
more about what that island was like before the volcano erupted. Besides it’s
unknown history I was also in awe of the architecture on Santorini because I
couldn’t understand how they built those homes on the side of such harsh
cliffs.
However,
right before we started touring we went to Delphi, the home of the oracle and
the Temple of Apollo. I really enjoyed learning more about sacrifice at the
ruins and about the oracle itself. I find the art of prophesizing during ancient
times really confusing, and I really wish I could go back in time and witness
one of them because the fact that the oracle would respond in such a strange and
unconnected way, and then someone would interoperate that phrase, so that it answers
the question that was asked in a way.
Also when
we were in Delphi we visited a monastery where we saw the body of Blessed Luke,
and while that completely took me by surprise, I thought it was so cool to see
the body of such a famous figure being displayed such a public way, and it
really stressed his importance during his time on this earth and for the people
of Greece.
Lastly,
while touring the sea I thought it was really cool to see another acropolis on
the island of Rhodes, and I thought it was cool to compare this acropolis with
the one in Athens.
