Michele Rillon - Blog #2

These past two weeks have been filled with such great memories. On the cruise, we were able to go to Mykonos and discover the city on our own which allowed us to visit sites such as the windmill and the famous white steps. Through the narrow streets and the smell of paint I was able to navigate the places I was in through the distinct shops and houses.

Going to Kusadasi, Turkey was one of the highlights for me on this trip because it allowed me to experience a country I never saw myself visiting. The excursion in Turkey was interesting, especially when visiting the archeological site it shared a few similar features in details of monuments however was different in its own ways. Going to the rug shop taught me many things such as the amount of months it takes for a rug to be made by hand and the how expensive it is. I enjoyed watching the lady unravel the silk and the steps on doing so.

Crete and Santorini had to be by far my favorite islands to visit. They were my favorite particularly because they were unique. For Crete, the uniqueness derived from the white mountains and caves as well as it being the birthplace of Zeus according to Greek Mythology. As for Santorini, it is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean sea which was amazing to see especially because of its landscapes and white and blue houses in the famous cities of Fira and Oia.
Overall, this has been such a great experience especially for my first may term. Thank you for everything in setting up such a well thought out and amazing trip! It was definitely memorable and a dream come true!

Deja West May 30, 2018 May Term The Temple of Poseidon             So first, mama we made it! I am incredibly happy to be in Greece, and have loved every bit of it (except for the bugs).             Over the past semester I was fortunate enough to learn a lot about ancient Greek civilizations in Professor Seaman’s class, and whenever I heard him saying the phrase “Those of you going on my may term will get to go here,” I found myself overwhelmed with excitement about what these cites would be like in person. While I’ve been fascinated by the ancient ruins and temples we’ve seen so far, two stick out in particular: The Temple of Poseidon and Palamidi.             Poseidon has always been one of my favorite Greek gods, and his temple has easily become my favorite of the ones we’ve visited. Blog Reflection 2

Liz Culp Blog Reflection 2 The most memorable place of my second week in Greece was the island of Rhodes. The hike up was half the fun and when I reached the top it was suddenly all worth it. I knew very little about Rhodes but I was soon very intrigued by all the history on the small island. First, I had no idea the Persians tried to take over but then was defeated by the Athenians. Throughout the Pelopennesian War, Rhodes did not favor one side. I was very surprised but overall, Rhodes always stayed mostly independent. It is hard to pick one island I loved the most but Rhodes was the most memorable.
